This tutorial from thevfxbro shows us how to use the 3D camera tracker to ‘composite’ a Christmas tree into a shot. However, the 3D camera tracker can take quite a while if you have a long clip. This is your best tracking option directly in After Effects. The tool essentially automatically creates dozens of track points in your footage and allows you to select which ones to use after the computer processes the footage. One of the most powerful features to hit After Effects in recent years is the 3D camera-tracking tool. While it’s designed to work with screens, it can also work with picture frames, signs, and simple surfaces. In order to help make screen replacements easier, After Effects has a built-in corner pin tracker that is designed to work with any four point surface. If you do a lot of commercial or sci-fi work, then you probably do a lot of screen replacements. When to Use It: Basic screen replacement. This video from Robert’s Productions shows us how to use two-point tracking to add text to a scene. Two-point tracking is notably superior to single-point tracking because it can track rotation and scale, not just position. Two-point tracking is fantastic for simple camera movements, as long as there are a few contrasted elements for the tracker to track. When to Use It: On footage with mild to moderate levels of camera shake. In this tutorial from Live Tech Australia, we take a look at how to use the single-point tracker in After Effects. If you’re in a rush, one-point tracking will work, but for most professional circumstances, you’ll want to at least use two-point tracking. After Effects uses contrast to find track points, so you’ll need to make sure you set your tracker on a well-defined point. ![]() The single-point tracker built into After Effects has long been a go-to tool for motion artists, but you need to be careful with single-point tracks because footage doesn’t normally shake in 2D space only. When to Use It: Very quick 2D tracking situations centered around a single point with no warping. Let’s take a look at six different ways to execute motion tracking in After Effects and discuss when certain tracking features should and shouldn’t be used. This is especially true for motion tracking. However, the tracker you use to motion track your footage might not be the best choice depending on your specific clip. He wrote that the area around Dodona and the Achelous River was inhabited by the Selli and a people, who had been called Graeci but were called Hellenes by his time. Aristotle had the first surviving written use the name Graeci ( Γραικοί), in his Meteorology. William Smith notes in his Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography that foreigners frequently refer to people by a different name (an exonym) from their native one (an endonym). Several other speculations have been made. The Romans most likely called the country Graecia and its people Graeci after encountering the ancient tribe Graecians from the area of Boeotia, but the Greeks called their land Hellas and themselves Hellenes. Those names, in turn, trace their origin from Graecus, the Latin adaptation of the Greek name Γραικός (pl. Similarly, the Latin name of the nation was Graeci, which is the origin of the English name Greeks. The English name Greece and the similar adaptations in other languages derive from the Latin name Graecia (Greek: Γραικία), literally meaning 'the land of the Greeks', which was used by Ancient Romans to denote the area of modern-day Greece. The Hellenistic dominance was pushed out of Central Asia and remained further south as the Indo-Greek Kingdom, until eventually replaced by the expansion of Indo-Scythians and the Kushans. Zhang's report of the famous Ferghana horse led to Emperor Wu of Han sending further emissaries seeking trade, though frictions between the envoy and the rulers at Alexandria Eschate led to the War of the Heavenly Horses between the Chinese and the Ferghana confederations, and the eventual Chinese victory led to the establishment of the Protectorate of the Western Regions. Chinese contact was made first by Han Dynasty diplomat Zhang Qian in 139 BC during his mission to seek an anti- Xiongnu alliance with Greater Yuezhi. ![]() Similarly, ancient China referred to the Hellenistic Greco-Bactrian Kingdom in Central Asia as Daxia ( Tokhara, or Bactria), and the various city-state confederations around the Ferghana Valley as Dayuan, meaning "Great Ionians". Today, words derived from Yūnān can be found in Persian, Turkish, Azerbaijani, Uzbek, Kurdish, Armenian (as Yūnānistan "land of Yūnān" - istan "land" in Persian), Arabic, Hebrew (Biblical and Modern) ( Yavan יָוָן), Aramaic (identical to Hebrew, but in Syriac abjad ܝܘܢ Yaw'n). The term would eventually be applied to all the Greeks. It was derived from the Old Persian Yauna for the Ionian Greeks ( Ancient Greek: Ἰάονες, iāones), on the western coast of Asia Minor, who were the first Greeks to come into contact with the Persians. The name Yūnān ( Persian: یونان) came through Old Persian during the Achaemenid Empire (550-333 BC). Of those, the Ionians largely lived in Anatolia, aka Asia Minor, ergo the most in contact with the Asian world, so their ethnonym became commonly used for all of the Hellenes, to civilizations to east of Greece. Hellen himself became the founding father to all Greek tribes, begetting one from each of his sons: Aeolus the Aeolians, Dorus the Dorians, and Xuthus the Achaeans and Ionians through his son Ion. Hellen's father survived a great flood which Zeus caused to happen in order to wipe out humanity. Note: The default camera app on recent versions of Android includes a Panorama option to create panoramic images using it. This remains to be seen once Android 4.2 rolls out though. Images can be published on Google+ or Google Maps, and probably also other locations. Photo Spheres that you create with your phone are stored as jpeg files, with the information required to view them stored as XML data in the image itself. Below is Google's official demo video of the Photo Sphere feature. It is probably best to take a look at the app in a video as it is better suited for a demonstration. The different photo angles get aligned properly in the process so that it is less likely that you can spot transitions between two photos on the panorama. The panorama gets rendered in the end once you are finished taking the photos. You add photos to the image, which may not look aligned at all at first, but that's only before the app starts the processing. You start with a single photo and go from there. The gray areas in the room indicate areas that you still need to take a photo of to complete the panorama. ![]() You fill that room by taking photos from the scene and the application displays the resulting image right on the screen as it fills up the empty space. Ideal for creating panoramic images, it can also be used to create 360 images and more. You basically take a lot of photos, preferably all in the right angle, and use the software afterward to stitch them together to create a larger photo. What I liked so much about Microsoft Photosynth is that it is a program that creates a larger panoramic image from a number of photos taken that depict the same scene. ![]() |
